Martha ALguera, BCD
Martha Alguera is a passionate advocate for women's health and reproductive justice.
Being raised by a single mom and being a mother to two daughters, the courage and strength of women has always inspired her and activated her into birth work. Uplifting and supporting women is a core value which she carries throughout all of her work and community activism.
Martha was born in Nicaragua and raised in New Orleans since 3 weeks of age. She has a deep passion for the Latino and New Orleans cultures. She is bilingual and enjoys providing Doula support to a diverse population with a special focus on BIPOC women and families.
Martha has been supporting families since 2012 and has worked with high risk pregnancies as well as with families with traumatic birth experiences. Martha is certified as a Best Doula and looks forward to getting trained as a lactation consultant in the near future.
She also uses her training as a massage therapist to enhance Doula work specializing on prenatal and neonatal massage.
In her personal life, Ms. Alguera enjoys playing percussion and singing with various musical groups in the city. She is also an activist for various causes including women's rights, immigrant justice and reproductive justice.
